End milling cutter is a kind of rotary cutter used for milling processing, its structure is complex, each part of the name and function are different. The following is the name of each part of the end mill:

First, the cutting edge part
Point of a tool
Definition: The tip of the cutter is the meeting point of the cutting edge of the end mill, and it is the first part of the workpiece in the cutting process.
Peripheral edge
Definition: The cutting edge located on the cylindrical surface of the end mill is the main cutting edge of the end mill.
Bottom edge
Definition: A cutting edge located on the end face of an end mill that intersects the peripheral edge to form the tip. The bottom edge is mainly used to process the bottom plane perpendicular to the side, and can also participate in the side processing.
Spiral Angle
Definition: Spiral Angle refers to the Angle between the tangent line of the spiral cutting edge of the end mill and the axis of the milling cutter. The size of spiral Angle has an important effect on cutting performance.
Blade band
Definition: A surface on the front side of the cutting edge that guides and removes chips from the cutting process.
Back tool face
Definition: A surface located on the back side of the cutting edge to reduce friction between the cutting edge and the workpiece and improve cutting efficiency.
Chip pocket
Definition: Slot between cutting edges for temporary storage of chips produced during cutting to prevent chip clogging.
Second, the handle and the neck
hilt
Definition: The part that holds the end mill on the spindle of the machine tool to transmit cutting force and torque.
Knife neck
Definition: The part between the cutting edge and the tool handle, used to connect the cutting edge and the tool handle, while playing the role of support and positioning.
Third, other parts
Outside diameter
Definition: The maximum diameter of the cutting edge portion of an end mill.
Blade length
Definition: The length of the cutting edge along the axis of the end mill.
Total length
Definition: The total length of an end mill, including the cutting edge, neck and shank.
Center slot
Definition (some end mills have) : Slot in the center of the end mill used to improve cooling and lubrication during cutting through coolant.
coating
Definition (some end mills have) : A thin layer of material coated on the surface of an end mill to improve the wear resistance, heat resistance, and lubrication of a tool.
Example description
Take a common straight shank end mill as an example:
Tip: It is the meeting point of the cutting edge of the end mill, sharp and sharp.
Peripheral edge: Wrap around the cylindrical surface of the end mill to form a helical cutting edge.
Bottom edge: located on the end face of the end mill and intersecting with the peripheral edge to form a cutting edge for machining the bottom plane.
Shank: Cylindrical, used to clamp the end mill on the machine spindle.
Neck: The part that connects the cutting edge and the tool handle to support and position.
Outer diameter: 10 mm, indicating the maximum diameter of the cutting edge part of the end mill.
Edge length: 50 mm, indicating the length of the cutting edge along the axis of the end mill.
Total length: 60 mm, total length of end mill including cutting edge, neck and shank.
Together, these parts form the structure of the end mill, enabling it to play an efficient and accurate cutting role in milling.
