Let us take you on a brief tour of our manufacturing facility in Wuhan, China. We have 2,800 square meters of space to accommodate new machinery and improve existing processes. Take a look at how our tools are manufactured.

Receiving and Turning

Our tour begins in the material receiving and dispatch department. All incoming steel materials are coded and maintained for traceability as part of our ISO 9001:2008 registered quality system. Depending on the material being processed, our suppliers vary. The materials used for most of our tools exceed customer expectations, and currently, our manufacturing center only produces tools made from tungsten carbide.

Material Handling

All WC and WC Cobalt end mills then are given a standard Weldon shank and sent to the Milling Department for milling of the flutes.

After milling (and every other operation at SDFtools), each tool is carefully inspected in the respective department for conformance to shop order specifications. With thousands of standard tools as well as numerous custom-made special end mills, constant inspection of tolerances is top priority.

Tools are then sent off site to be heat treated. Upon returning to SDFtools, tools are again tested individually for the correct Rockwell Hardness and inspected for any visual imperfections.

fine grinding

After initial processing, the bars are sent to the grinding workshop. Depending on the requirements, different end mills are sent to different grinding machines. This process is typically divided into two steps: rough grinding and finish grinding. Once completed, they are moved to the next workshop.

End mill passivation

After fine grinding, the end mill has an exceptionally sharp edge. If we were to deliver such a tool to our customers, it would not be very durable and would easily chip. Therefore, we perform a blunting treatment on the end mill. This step must be done manually by an experienced technician under a microscope.

Coating processing

After completing the above processes, we typically send the items to our own coating workshop for coating. Of course, for tools with particularly high requirements, we also send them to our partner coating facilities in Switzerland and Germany.
