Cutting speed adjustment

The selection of cutting speed mainly depends on the material of the workpiece being processed. Some foreign tool manufacturers’ tool samples are accompanied by tool cutting parameter selection tables, which can be used for reference. However, the selection of cutting parameters is also influenced by multiple factors such as the machine tool, tool system, shape of the workpiece to be processed, and clamping method. The cutting speed should be appropriately adjusted according to the actual situation. When tool life is given priority, the cutting speed can be appropriately reduced. When the chip’s removal from the cutting edge is not good, the cutting speed can be appropriately increased.

Feed rate adjustment

The selection of feed rate mainly depends on the material of the workpiece to be processed and the diameter of the end mill. Taking the magnesium-aluminum alloy mobile phone case as an example again, the feed rate needs to be adjusted in combination with the tool specifications and the performance of the machine tool. When tool life is given top priority, the feed rate can be appropriately reduced. In addition, in the CNC milling of the cavities of workpieces such as molds, when the cutting point is a concave part or a deep cavity, the extension of the end mill needs to be increased. If long-edge end mills are used, due to the large deflection of the tool, vibration is prone to occur and the tool may break. At this time, the feed rate needs to be adjusted more carefully.

Adjustment of cutting depth and width

Cutting depth: It needs to be determined comprehensively based on factors such as the model and shape of the blade, as well as the spindle torque and working conditions. For instance, for certain specifications of end mills, the cutting depth range may be around 1 to 4 millimeters. However, when specifically processing mobile phone casings, further adjustments may be necessary based on the thickness, material, and processing requirements of the casings.

Cutting width: Generally, it is 60% to 80% of the diameter of the milling cutter. In the processing of mobile phone casings, appropriate adjustments can be made based on factors such as the roughness requirements of the processing surface, the wear of the cutting tool, and the stability of the machine tool.
