The application of end mills in the Processing of Furniture components

End mills are widely used in the processing of furniture components, mainly for the processing of tenons, mortises, round holes, surfaces and curved surfaces and other structures. By reasonably selecting the type of tool and processing parameters, efficient and high-precision processing can be achieved. The following are the specific application scenarios and key operation points:

1. Mortise and tenon groove and mortise hole processing

Mortise and tenon processing: End mills are often used to process mortise and tenon parts of furniture, especially those with larger widths. During processing, select the appropriate tool diameter and length, and adjust the equipment according to the width of the tenon and groove, such as using a vertical milling machine, etc., to ensure processing accuracy.

Mortise processing: For rectangular, oblong and other mortises, end mills can efficiently complete cutting tasks. During the processing, it is necessary to select the appropriate end mill according to the shape and size of the mortise and tenon, and adjust the machine tool parameters to ensure the accuracy and quality of the mortise and tenon.

2. Circular hole processing

Small-diameter circular holes: For circular holes with smaller diameters, end mills can be used for processing on drilling machines. When multiple circular holes need to be processed, a multi-axis drilling machine can be adopted to improve production efficiency.

Large-diameter circular holes: When processing circular holes with larger diameters, a tool beam can be installed on the spindle and a cutting tool can be fitted. The circular holes can be cut out by rotating the spindle.

3. Surface and curved surface processing

Linear part processing: End mills can be used to process the cross-sections of linear parts. By adjusting the parameters of the machine tool and the cutting tool, the required surface shape can be achieved.

Curved part processing: For curved parts such as chair hind legs and sofa armrests, end mills can be used in conjunction with sample mold fixtures on a milling machine for processing. The shape of the edge of the sample mold should conform to the shape of the part, and the processing accuracy should be ensured through the positioning and clamping device. During the processing, cutting should be carried out in the direction of the texture. For parts with a smaller radius of curvature, the feed rate should be appropriately reduced.

4. Special structure processing

Trapezoidal tenon processing: By using a combined milling cutter and a wedge-shaped pad, trapezoidal tenons can be processed on a vertical milling machine. The precise processing of trapezoidal tenons is achieved by adjusting the inclination Angle of the workpiece and the positioning and clamping method.

Dovetail tenon processing: When processing dovetail tenons, first adjust the milling cutter shaft to tilt to the left at a certain Angle. After processing one side of the tenon, then adjust the cutter shaft to tilt to the right at the same Angle to process the other side of the tenon groove.

5. Processing techniques and precautions

Tool selection: Choose the appropriate type and specification of end mills based on the processing material and shape. For instance, flat-end end mills are suitable for processing right-angle corners or planes, while ball-end end mills are ideal for cutting curved surfaces or solid shapes.

Cutting parameters: Reasonably set parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and cutting depth to improve processing efficiency and surface quality.

Clamping method: Ensure that the end mill is correctly clamped to prevent the tool from loosening or breaking. During the processing, pay attention to the vibration of the cutting tool and adjust the cutting parameters in time to reduce the vibration.
